Indiana has 1,745 MW of wind installed, which reflects a 2014 increase of 200 MW brought online by the Headwaters Wind Farm in Randolph County. A major new development for 2015 is the Amazon Wind Farm (Fowler Ridge). This 150 MW project will feed the electric grids that supply Amazon Web Services datacenters.
A positive policy development for small wind occurred in Indiana this past legislative session. An investor owned utility, NIPSCO, agreed to extend its successful voluntary feed-in tariff program, which will facilitate more small wind in northern Indiana.
Indiana is one of three states in the MWEC region with a modest renewable energy goal (10% by 2015) that is voluntary.
