Midwest energy needs in 2050: All from renewables?

Researchers have shown that the Midwest could meet nearly 100% of its energy needs through clean, renewable energy (wind, water, and solar) by 2050.

Researchers have shown that the Midwest could meet nearly all of its energy needs through clean, renewable energy by 2050. This 100% renewable energy mix in each Midwestern state would come from wind, water, and solar.

According to the research, a large part of the energy production would come from wind!

"For seven Midwest states -- Michigan, Minnesota, Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, Ohio, and Iowa -- between 50 percent (Indiana) and 79 percent (Minnesota) of the projected energy mix could come from a combination of onshore and offshore wind."
